Homeschool Mothers Journal {13} - A Reminder for You ?

The Home school Mother’s Journal began as a single post on a Friday morning over at The Homeschool Chick, and turned into a link-up for homeschool mothers across the blog-O-sphere to share a piece of their journey with one another each week. The link party is open from Friday to Monday so join me in The Homeschool Journal and lets encourage one another on our homeschool journey.

In my life this week…
In our homeschool this week…
  • We went to Science Works and had an absolute ball.  It was so much fun. We went and had a good play around Perception Deception and are planning on going to see Explore-a-saurus next month.
  • If you join the Facebook Little Kids Day In you can download a 2 for 1 voucher which entitles you to half price entry to Science Works & Explore-a-saurus on Monday 5th March 2011. Offer: 2 Adult Explore-a-saurus exhibition AND Scienceworks entry tickets for the price of 1 Adult entry to the Explore-a-saurus exhibition AND Scienceworks entry only. Save $18.
  • We participated in a Not Back to School Blog Hop Aussie Style. This weeks topic was introducing our Children.  It was fun and I am looking forward to next weeks blog hop.I have enjoyed meeting fellow Australian Homeschool Moms.  If you are Australian, blog and Homeschool join in the fun.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
  • Candid Conversation with God by Erica over at Confessions of a Homeschooler.  If you are weary and in need of some encouragement as a homeschool mom this one is one you need to keep in your favourites bar. Erica writes about her doubts and fears and what the Lord answered her through His Word.
  • Tips for a smoother homeschool day over at Weird, Unsocialised Homeschoolers.
I am inspired by…

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
  • This week I am pleased to say was a quieter week for which I am pleased.
  • Monday we joined a few friends and went to Science Works for the day.
  • Tuesday we went to Pykes Creek Reservoir
  • Wednesday we visited some friends for a play date
  • Thursday some cousins came over for a play date
  • Friday swimming lessons at Paul Sadler Swimland
  • Saturday we are going to a strawberry farm to pick strawberries and then we are going to celebrate the twins birthdays !
  • Counting down the months, weeks and days

My favorite thing this week was…
  • Watching Sir N learning how to dive into the pool.
  • Watching Soul Surfer.  Excellent movie.  Great family viewing.  Especially watch the extra parts.

Here are some interesting links to and about Soul Surfer: Her personal site: Bethany Hamilton, Health and Fitness, Her Blog, Soul Surfer, Picture Gallery, About her foundation: Friends of Bethany.

What’s working/not working for us…
  • having our shelves organised.  It's so much easier to find what we are looking for now :)
Questions/thoughts I have…
  • I have been reading through Exodus and Numbers in the bible.  I read in Numbers 10:1-10 how the Lord told them to make and use silver trumpets  along with instructions on when to blow them.  They were blown to call meetings, announce festivals, the start of a new month etc. At the end He says: They will serve as a reminder for you before your God: I am the LORD your God. Numbers 10:10
  • This has me thinking what can I do that will help me and my family remember the Lord my God daily, monthly and annually ? What do you do in your home that serves as a reminder of the Lord your God in a special way?
Things I’m working on…
I’m reading…
  • Unveiled the story of Tamar (Series: Lineage of Grace). The story of Tamar is but a few lines in Exodus but oh such a powerful story when you think about it.
  • Exodus in the bible along with my Mom.  I have learned so many many interesting things as I have been researching online the biblical events, customs and festivals of the Jewish people. This is our heritage that we have been grafted in to.
  • Moses The Deliverer by Ellen Gunderson Traylor.
I’m cooking…
  • Turkey legs for dinner.
  • Home made apple crumble with apples Paul picked for me.  Feeling very domesticated!
I’m grateful for…
  •  Sara over at Saving for Someday who took the time to explain about blog giveaways and the law.  I had been feeling rather put out by all these excellent blogs who have these rules posted at the bottom about their giveaways and they are only open to US residents. I can understand about postage but when a giveaway is an eBook why can't it be open worldwide ?? Thanks to Sara I have a better understanding.

  1. Sounds like you had a great week!

    1. It was a great week thanks. I ♥ your rainbow of reasons post. Fantastic !

  2. I love the way your collage turned out. Very nice. I need some work on mine. Enjoy your trip to South Africa, sounds like a big adventure. We really liked Soul Surfer too. Thanks for taking the time to list all those links, I will be checking them out!

    1. Thanks :) A freind of mine put me onto PhotoScape and I am so pleased I gave it a try. The best part is that it's FREE !

Great Fun 4 Kids has an excellent tutorial on it.

You are welcome for the links.

  3. Your pictures from Pykes Creek make me want to spend our day outside. Looks like a great week with just enough balance.

Stopping by from THC! Happy Weekend.

    1. Hope your weekend has been a good one too :)

It was lots of fun. I took a stack of books to look through. My aim is to start spending more time outdoors this year especially with our SA trip coming up we will be in the bush.

  4. What an awesome week! I just LOVE your collage from your trip! Looks like so much fun. :-) I have heard so much about "Soul Surfer." I definitely have to pick up a copy to watch with my family. Hope you have a great weekend! Thanks for visiting my blog! Yes, NASA's website is full of information and resources. It is a hidden treasure. :-)))

    1. Will need to check out the NASA site this week. Thanks for the tip.

I had heard a lot about Soul Surfer too and am so pleased that we took the time to watch it. I think I would like to own it.

I love using my new program to make collages its so easy to use and best of all it's free. Have you used PhotoScape ?

  5. Having organized shelves are a total must to homeschool effectively I hate when my shelves get messy I waste too much time searching for things, how are your new years goals coming along?.

    1. New Years goals (blushing here) not very well I am afraid. I have come to the conclusion I need to get over my CHAOS problem first and then tackle those goals.

  6. Wow, what a busy week. I am going to read your post about your wipe off menu board. I just write mine on paper and put it on the fridge with a magnet. Thanks for stopping by my blog too.

    1. It was busy but it was good too :)

The wipe off menu was super easy to make and took very little time.

      You are welcome

  7. How did you cook your turkey legs? Recipe please?

    1. blush I didn't do much to the legs. I cut up potatoes and covered the bottom of a baking dish. Lay the legs on the top and poured over a Honey and Mustard sauce and backed it for two hours.

  8. Sounds like a fun week.
Thanks for the link about homework. My son's issues are willingness. So we are trying to weed out the lazy.

Enjoy your weather before fall comes on in full force.

    1. It was a good week :)
I think that attitude is the hardest part with homeschooling !

  9. Here's the No Bake Nutella Cheesecake recipe: It was yummy! If you like nuts, include them! We didn't and it needed that crunch. (It was still devoured though! LOL)

I have tried to include the Pinning it Down link, but I can't seem to resize the button. :(

    1. that looks nummy. Will need to give that a try.

Look at the HTML for the graphic and change the height and width numbers OR add this code in just before the / >< / a > at the end. Make sure to put it in before the slash.

      height="123" width="160"

That should make it smaller. If its still not small enough just change these numbers by 10% each time till they are correct.

If it doesn't work for you. Put it in the post and let me know I will "look" and send you some fixed code to use.

  10. I love your collage, too!

Thank you for all of the links in this post, too :-)

  11. At first I thought the post over at WUHS was titled "Tips for a smother homeschool day" heehee...
Your week was PACKED! and you put it all down here so nicely and organized. So many links you've included...I'll have to bookmark your post just so I can view them all. Not enough time at the moment lol (so many links, so little time *wink*)
We love Science Works! Well, of course we've never been to the one you went to but loved the ones in the States we've been able to visit.
Hope you have a fun weekend and a great next week :)
I'm coming over from the Homeschool Chick.

    1. :) I know what you mean about not enough time. I find that incredibly frustrating !

We enjoyed Science Works so much I think I would like to go there more often this year

I love to hear from you so please leave your comments below ♥
