It's been a week of nursing a sick husband and son who had the flu. Starting back with official school and planning our year ahead. We currently work on a five week cycle. Four weeks of school then one week off to rest which works well. Although at the moment we will be starting with a six week cycle so we can fit in a complete school year and finish two weeks before Christmas.
In our home school this week…
- Week 15 Sonlight Core
- Worked on preparing our South Africa section of Expedition Earth papers.
- Sir N started reading Book 1 in the I Can Read It!
- We are currently reading: Dr Doolittle
- Have you seen the Tech Coach ? Check out this blog it's full of FREE on line games and virtual tours from Typing Tutors, Maths Games, Rocks & Minerals, History etc. If you can think of a category you can find a post covering what's on the web for your child. EXCELLENT Resource.
- Are you are looking for a great way to teach Biblical World View to your 6-14 year old? Apologia has a new product range on the market called What We Believe consisting of Journals, Colouring Books, CD's and Main Text for you to look at. Lori over at Special Connection Home School has written an excellent introduction of Who am I ? which is the second book in the series.
- Homeschooling Without Judgment of Those Who Don’t by Belinda on Heart of the Matter. I give this article a definitive 10 out of 5!
- Ten ways to de-clutter your life over at Natural News.com
- This week we visited my sister and sister in law.
My favorite thing this week was…
- Seeing Sir N rediscover his delight in cuddling with Daddy and reading a great book.
What’s working/not working for us…
Questions/thoughts I have…
- Why is it that all the big home school companies don't bless anyone outside their own country with giveaways ?? Even though they have a large customer base off shore ? This is one of my pet frustrations at the moment. Sigh ...
- Do you know of any Australian Home school Companies willing to supply giveaways for Aussie bloggers ?
- Do you know of any Australian Bloggers hosting give aways ? It's my blog's 1st Birthday and I want to celebrate with some digital giveaways and have no idea how to access some product. Any volunteers out there ?
- Deborah over at The Paper Maid answered this question for me even before my post went up today. Tammy over at 1...2...3... Teach with Me is hosting a 200 Follower Giveaway. For a chance to win one of the prizes there are six possible blogs to follow or TpT stores to follow totaling a possible 12 entries. Winners will be announced on 20 June 2012.
- My Top Ten Favourite Read Alouds post.
- 52 in 52 book reviews Five Chimneys and A Stolen Life
- Mount Washmore ... need I explain ??
- Completing my first ever sponsored product review. So much fun. This post will go live on Monday 18 June.
- Using Pinterest in Homes Schooling Part 1 over at The Chaos and The Clutter.
- Parental Rights over at Mom's Mustard Seeds.
- Five Ways to Avoid Home School Mom Body over at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers
- Say Bye-bye to Blogger Body, and Hello to Better Health over at Pro Blogger
- Don't let Facebook come between us over at The Nourishing Home. This is a great post explaining how to set up your Facebook so that you don't miss out on any of the great posts from the pages you have liked.
- What Do You Do If You Discover Your Daughter is Having Sex? over at To Love Honour and Vacuum.
- Journaling the Journey over at The Heart of Simplicity.
- Nothing new this week.
- Ami Brainerd from (Home School Share). I spent far to long poking around her boards. She has some excellent home school boards to look through. The thing I have enjoyed about Ami's boards is that she has very specifically themed boards such as: Summer Suppers, From Scratch, Deep Blue Sea School, Lego School, FIAR Co-op Ideas to name a few.
- Jolanthe from Homeschool Creations.
- Deborah Perrot from The Papermaid.
I’m grateful for…

The Home school Mother’s Journal began as a single post
on a Friday morning over at The Homeschool Chick, and turned into a link-up for home school mothers
across the blog-O-sphere to share a piece of their journey with one
another each week.
The link party has moved and is now hosted over at iHomeschool Network and is open from Friday to Monday so join me in The Homeschool Mothers Journal and lets encourage one another on our home school journey.
Love the quote you shared- those are words to live by:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo of father and son reading together!
Have you tried asking smaller homeschool companies for giveaways? Maybe they would be more willing to give? Just a thought!
You can always have a copy of Just Plain Nora for giveaway if you like;)
Oh wow Jen. Thank you so much :)
DeleteI agree with you on the quote. It is one that spoke volumes to me this past week.
We don't have very many companies here in Aus. We tend to purchase our product from the US. Many US companies don't sponsor off shore. Thanks for the idea. I will do some emailing this week and see ...
Blessings for the weekend ahead.
You are talking about digital giveaways - so there should be some willing - you don't require out of the country shipping cost that way! I'll give you a free Nature Unit Study if you'd like - or I have an ebook called "Perfectly Perfect" written for young women - you are welcome to either of them for a little giveaway. If you gather a few more like that and group them together it can be a bigger giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Thank you Keli :) I think I will spend the next week having a look around and emailing a few blog / ebook owners.
DeleteBlessings
thanks for visiting my blog
Deletevery cool photo of the traffic
LOVE the quote
off to check out Tech Coach - thanks :)
Hi Jen
DeleteYou are welcome. Glad you liked the photo of the traffic I had fun taking it.
You are welcome.
We love Sonlight's book selections, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Phyllis. I am so pleased that I was introduced to Sonlight years ago when I fist started home schooling. They have been a beacon of light guiding us through the seas of home schooling.
DeletePopping over to visit you space.
That is such a cool photo! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI share your frustration over giveaways...I live in Canada and though there are a few giveaways out there open to residents of North America, I find that most are for residents of the continental US only (other than digital downloads).
Thank you so much for sharing my post on using Pinterest in homeschooling!!! Part 2 will be posted this week.
Thank you Sharla :o)
DeleteI have emailed some of the hosts of the blog giveaways and asked them why their digital downloads are for US residents only and most them are frightened of breaking the law ;-O !!
I have noticed that even digital products are now being limited to US residents only. Sigh
You are welcome. I enjoyed reading the post about Pinterest.
Hi Chareen,
ReplyDeleteThe photo is really impressive! You must be so excited to have a new camera. Have you learnt how to use all its features yet?
Thanks for all the links, again. I've enjoyed some and will check more out, later.
God bless, Chareen:-)
Thanks Vicky. It is really exciting as I have always wanted one. When the person walked up to me with their camera bag and said here this is for you I burst into tears !
DeleteNo I haven't learnt to use all the features but I have become rather addicted to learning on the internet about them. My favourite place at the moment is Digital Photo School and Pinterest.
You are welcome.
Hi Chareen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting others know about my giveaway. :o) Most appreciated~!!
Yes, I have also noticed that we have a lack of giveaways here in Australia. Especially the hands on kind.
I love your quote that you are sharing today too.
Can't wait to find some more quiet time so I can go through all the links. I just love how your Homeschool Mothers Journal is ALWAYS so packed full of stuff.
Deborah
The Paper Maid
You are welcome Deborah !
DeleteHope your weekend is full of encouragement :)
Sounds like you had a productive week. And WOW--what a camera! Totally beyond my abilities, but definitely among my interests. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Judy.
DeleteIt was a great week thanks. Definately been on my interrest list. Now to learn how to use it and get my brain around all that jargon. LOL
So how is the school room revamp coming on ?
Another great week, and wow, what an amazing photo! Just magnificent! :-) We are a Sonlight family here, too. There is nothing like cuddling on the couch together to read. That is a precious picture of your son and hubby doing just that. I will check out all of the wonderful resources you suggested! Hope you have a great rest of your weekend. Many blessings, Lisa :-) P.S. I'm glad to now be a follower of your blog.
ReplyDeleteHello Lisa.
